WA Energy Experts · System Expansions & Upgrades

Already got solar? Let's make it work harder.

Most existing systems weren't sized for the way people actually use power today. Then came the EV. Then came the heat pump. Then came the kids working from home. Sound familiar?

You don't always need to rip out your existing setup and start from scratch. Often the smarter move is expanding what you've already got. Adding panels, upgrading your inverter, or bolting on storage so the system you paid for years ago actually keeps up with how your household runs now.

Redtail Energy handles system expansions and upgrades for WA homes and businesses whose original solar setup isn't pulling its weight anymore.

Where we Help

Four ways to get more out of your existing system

Adding Panels to an Existing System

If your roof has the space and your inverter has the headroom, adding panels is one of the fastest ways to boost generation without major rework. We assess your existing inverter capacity, switchboard setup and available roof space, then design the expansion to slot in cleanly with what's already there.

Battery Retrofits

If you've got solar but no battery, you're still exporting cheap and buying back expensive. Adding battery storage to an existing solar system stops the leak. We work with AC-coupled, DC-coupled and hybrid architectures, so we can retrofit storage to almost any existing setup.

Inverter Upgrades

The inverter is the bottleneck on most expansion jobs. If yours is undersized, ageing, or maxed out, upgrading it unlocks the ability to add more panels and battery storage down the track. We size the replacement to where you're headed, not just where you are now.

Whole-System Expansions

Sometimes a household has outgrown its system entirely. An older 3kW or 5kW setup that worked fine in 2015 won't cut it for a home running an EV, ducted air-con and a battery. We can expand the array, upgrade the inverter and add storage as a single coordinated job.

Government rebates & incentives

There's real money on the table right now.

Federal and WA State Governments are both offering serious financial support for households installing solar and battery storage. Stack them correctly and the savings are significant. As an accredited installer, we handle every step on your behalf, from system design through to rebate submission.

About Redtail Energy

WA Energy Experts
Backed by experience. Driven by doing it right.

Redtail Energy was founded by Matthew, a Perth-based electrician who spent years working across some of WA's most respected solar businesses before deciding it was time to do things on his own terms.

Having worked at every level of the industry, from boots-on-the-roof installs through to operations and sales, Matthew saw firsthand how often quality gets traded away in the race to the bottom on price. Too many homeowners have been left with systems that don't perform, warranties that don't get honoured, and no one to call when something goes wrong.

We're a small operation by choice. Because small means accountable.

The Redtail Difference

Why Choose Redtail.

Choosing the right solar team matters. At Redtail Energy, the focus is on dependable service, clear communication and delivering systems that actually perform sized to your home, your tariff and your future plans, year after year.

In-House Electricians

Every job is done by our own SAA-accredited team. The person who quotes is connected to the person installing, one accountable team, one standard.

No subcontractors. No race to the bottom on price. No "warranty issue, not our problem" once the truck pulls away.

Rebates Handled End-to-End

WA Battery Scheme, Federal Cheaper Home Batteries, STCs, all assigned and submitted as part of the install. The savings come straight off your quote.

No paperwork to chase. No fine print to decode. Just the right rebates, properly stacked.

Honest System Sizing

We size every system to your real energy use, factoring in roof orientation, shading, tariff structure and future plans like an EV or battery.

You end up with a system that performs, not a generic package designed to maximise our margin.

WA Owned & Operated

Not a national call centre. There's a real person behind every job who genuinely cares how it turns out, start to finish, with you for the long haul.

Perth's solar resource is world-class. We make sure your system is too.

What We Install

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about System Expansions & Upgrades?

Can I add more panels to my existing solar system?

In most cases, yes. The deciding factors are your inverter’s spare capacity (most inverters can handle more panels than they were originally fitted with), available roof space and shading, and your switchboard’s current rating.

We assess all three before quoting, so you know exactly what’s possible on your setup before you commit to anything.

Do I need to upgrade my inverter to add more panels or a battery?

Can I add a battery to a solar system that was installed years ago?

Will I lose my original feed-in tariff if I expand my system?

How much does an expansion cost compared to a brand new install?

Do the current rebates apply to my expansion?

Matt didn't try to sell us the biggest system on the market, he sized it to what we actually use. The install was clean, the rebate paperwork was handled, and twelve months in it's producing exactly what he said it would.
