It appears on your quote. We assign your Federal STCs and Cheaper Home Batteries Program discount on your behalf. The WA Residential Battery Scheme rebate is also taken off up front, paid straight to an accredited installer. The saving is applied directly to your install price, so you pay the discounted amount up front instead of chasing money back after the fact.

The Federal and WA State Governments are both currently offering financial support for households installing solar and battery storage. When you stack these incentives correctly, the savings are significant, and as an accredited installer, Redtail Energy handles all of it on your behalf.

Heads up: both Federal rebates drop on 1 January 2027. To get today's rates, your system must be installed by 31 December 2026.

Federal Incentives

Cheaper Home Batteries Program

From 1 July 2025, the Federal Government introduced an upfront rebate on eligible home battery systems. The rebate is delivered as a discount at the point of installation — similar to how solar STCs work, so you don't need to chase anything after the fact.

Rate change: on 1 January 2027 the battery rebate drops from 6.8 to 5.7 certificates per kWh (about 16% less). Get your battery installed by 31 December 2026 to lock in the current rate.

Available for battery systems between 5 kWh and 100 kWh
Must be installed alongside a new or existing solar system
Rebate value drops every six months (next drop 1 January 2027), so earlier is better
System must be installed by an approved installer

Federal Solar Rebate, Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs)

When you install a new solar system, you're eligible for an upfront discount through the Federal Government's Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. The value depends on your system size, location and the year of installation. Redtail Energy assigns the STCs as part of every solar installation, the saving comes straight off your quote.

Rate change: on 1 January 2027 solar STCs drop from 5 years of credits to 4 (20% less). Get your solar installed by 31 December 2026 to lock in the current rate.

WA State Incentives

WA Residential Battery Scheme

On top of the Federal rebate, WA households can get extra help through the State Government's Residential Battery Scheme. It runs alongside the Federal program, so you can stack both.

How much is the rebate?

Synergy customers: up to $1,300
Horizon Power customers: up to $3,800 (higher costs in regional and remote WA)
The maximum is reached at 10 kWh of usable storage. Bigger batteries can still join and get the same maximum.
It comes off your price up front. The money is paid straight to the installer, not to you after the job.

What your system needs

A new battery that can join a Virtual Power Plant (VPP), and is on Synergy's or Horizon Power's approved list for your area
You agree to join a Synergy or Horizon Power VPP. Your battery helps the grid at busy times and you get paid for it
The installer must be accredited and listed on the Plenti Vendor Directory

No-interest loans

Up to $10,000, with no interest
Pay it back over up to 10 years
For households earning under $210,000 a year combined
You still need to join a VPP. Plenti, who runs the scheme, contacts you about the loan

How long will it last?

The scheme opened on 1 July 2025 and has 100,000 rebates in total
It runs until they're all used up. The WA Government expects that to be some time in 2027

Can I combine Federal and State rebates?

Yes. In most cases you can stack both, which is where the real savings are. The combined value depends on your battery size, location, retailer and install timing — get in touch and we’ll work out exactly what applies to your situation.

Will the rebate appear on my quote, or do I claim it back later?

Am I eligible for the WA Residential Battery Scheme?

The scheme is open to WA households installing a new battery that can join a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) and is on Synergy's or Horizon Power's approved list. It must be installed by an installer accredited with Plenti, and you agree to join a Synergy or Horizon Power VPP. The rebate is up to $1,300 for Synergy customers and up to $3,800 for Horizon Power customers. Full details are on the WA Government page.

For the optional no-interest loan, your combined household income needs to be under $210,000 a year and you’ll need to pass an assessment. As part of our quote we’ll work through your eligibility and confirm exactly what you can access.

What's the difference between STCs and the Cheaper Home Batteries Program?

They’re two different Federal rebates that happen to stack.

STCs (Small-scale Technology Certificates) are the long-running solar rebate. They apply to new solar systems and reduce a little every year through to 2030.

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program is a newer Federal rebate, introduced in July 2025, specifically for battery storage on systems between 5 kWh and 100 kWh. If you’re installing solar and a battery together, both apply to your install.

How much longer will these rebates last?

Not forever, and the value drops every year.

The Federal STC scheme steps down every 1 January and winds up at the end of 2030. The Cheaper Home Batteries Program rebate drops every six months. Both drop next on 1 January 2027, so install by 31 December 2026 to get today's rates. The WA Residential Battery Scheme is subject to funding availability and won’t last forever either.

Translation: every year you wait, you get less. Now is genuinely the best time to install.
