Project Overview
This Perth home already had 13.3kW of solar doing the heavy lifting, but with that much generation, daytime solar generation was going to waste.
The Challenge
This home was already punching well above its weight — a large 13.3kW solar system pumping out serious amounts of power every sunny day. The problem? With a system that size, there’s a big amount of excess generation during the day that the home simply wasn’t using in real time.
The Solution
To match a 13.3kW array, you need a battery that can actually keep up — so we removed the existing inverter and rewired the PV into the GoodWe ESA system with a massive 49.92kWh battery (48kWh usable), paired with a GoodWe 10kW three-phase hybrid inverter. With capacity like that, the home can soak up the bulk of its daytime solar surplus and still have plenty in reserve for overnight use, rather than handing it back to the grid for next to nothing. We also wired in essential circuits for blackout protection, so if the grid ever drops out, the important stuff — lights, fridge, key power circuits — stays running without missing a beat
The Result
This 13.3kW system now generates around 22,000 kWh a year, offsetting roughly 15.8 tonnes of CO2. With 48kWh of usable storage, the home is capturing most of its daytime surplus instead of exporting it for next to nothing — saving an estimated $3,800–$4,300 a year on power bills. And with essential circuits on blackout protection, the key loads in the home stay powered through any outage.
